How to Prepare a Water Efficient Garden!
- Prepare the Soil - If soils are compacted turn them or aerate them . Test the PH of the soil. They should be 5.5-6.5, if acidic add Dolomite or Lime, if alkaline add plenty of organic fertiliser to balance the PH.
- Ensure water is able to penetrate the soil - If the soil is repelling water, add a Soil Wetter. This allows all available water to enter the soil.
- Smart Planting - Start with careful species selection, ensuring plants can survive in prevailing conditions. At planting stage, make sure the hole is 2 - 3 times the depth of the pot, add Water Crystals and Slow Release Fertiliser at this point. Make sure you back fill the plant with sufficient soil and create a water well.
- Mulch your Plants - If the soil is sandy spread a Wetter-Aid over the soil. Then add Mulch to a depth of at least 50mm. Do not apply mulch to the base of the plant, as this can cause collar rot.
