Improve the quality of your vegies by improving the soil first!  Take a bit of extra time at the start and you’ll be rewarded with a bumper crop.

STEP 1   DIG & AERATE

Aerating helps to break up the soil and get it ready for next few steps. For best results use a stainless steel Spade and Garden Fork.
Plantmark recommends Spear & Jackson Border Stainless Steel Spade and Fork $45.00 ex GST EA.

STEP 2  ADD ORGANIC MATTER

Vegies gardens love organic matter, and lots of it.  Manure or Blood & Bone will improve the soil structure and water holding capacity.  Use approx 30L bag of cow manure per square metre.
Plantmark recommends Moisture Plus Cow Manure 25LT from $4.10 ex GST or Richgro Blood & Bone 20kg from $22.97 ex GST

STEP 3  ADD BACTIVATE GROW

Bactivate GROW is a Soil Rebuilder and complete Fertiliser in one.  Like organic matter, it will assist in improving soil structure and moisture content as well as reducing pesticide and herbicide use.   It is environmentally friendly, safe to use around children/pets and will not burn plants.
Plantmark recommends Bactivate GROW 3kg $14.75 ex GST

STEP 4  DIG & MIX

Thoroughly mix through all additives.  Soil should look fine and crumbly.  Water your Vegie Patch well and let it sit for 1-2 weeks before planting/replanting.

STEP 5   PLANT YOUR VEGIES

Your soil should now be in the perfect condition for planting.  Choose Vegies and Herbs that are suitable to your climate and in season.
